Cleanliness is next to godliness. This we have read from our school days. Unfortunately we forget this in our day to day lives. We like to keep our house and desk clean but not beyond that. We keep littering the road or throwing things out of our windows without thinking that we are littering our immediate neighbourhood through which, we will need to walk every day. When we go to other countries, we admire how clean they are! But we forget that people there are disciplined enough not to litter their surroundings. Can we not do the same in our immediate neighbourhood?
In the USA, there are over 300 million cars moving each day. Yet no one uses the car horns - making it a very quite experience. This is the case in most of first world countries. Even in some of the other countries, hours are seldom used while driving. In our neighbourhood, in Sri Lanka horns are very rarely used. Let us try and do the same in every Indian city. For this to work, we need the cooperation of every citizen and motorist. The extent of honking is so bad that lot of peoople like policemen, drivers, motorists and those exposed to honking are gradually losing their hearing. Let's wake up before it gets too late.
It is not uncommon to see men publicly urinate in open spaces, along the bridges or in dark, bushy corners. There are numerous Sulabh facilities spread across our cities but very few use them. Let us promote their use by all so that no one urinates in the open. It is a very unhygienic and makes the air and surroundings very polluted with foul smell spreading all around. Besides, it is embarrasing to explain such actions to the children or embarrasing to the women folk accompanying us.
It is very common to greet people when they meet each other each morning. Whether it is the security guy or the watchman or the janitor - each person is treated as a human being and treated accordingly. We feel important when someone greets us - similarly the other person will also feel good when someone greets them. Let's make it a habit to greet others when we meet them each morning!
Provide recurring and non-recurring donations to other charitable institutions having similar objectives. Large non-recurring donations are also given to various institutions for construction of hospitals, school buildings, acquiring medical equipments, carrying out relief, running orphanages & old age homes etc.
“We are so engrossed in our day to day lives that we often forget that we are all human beings and being human should be our first objective. It is not important what we do or what we earn or how big our car or house is. We should be happy with what we have, not with what we are! Material things bring us comfort but being human brings peace within us. Do a good deed each day and see how it makes your day good.”
